Law At Work is working in association with Highlands College to support local food establishments to implement a food safety management system based on the principles of HACCP – Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points System. This system is called ‘CookSafe’ which will meet the requirements set out in the new food safety legislation. The trainers are working Environmental Health Officers who can share real-life experiences and offer their expertise in rating risks in the food industry. This course is aimed at all food business operators and personnel who are required to handle food and the States of Jersey, Health Protection Department is satisfied that the course meets the requirements set out in the new food safety legislation.

Training will highlight:
• risks of food poisoning and food borne diseases;
• procedures for preventing biological, physical and chemical contamination through a documented system called
‘CookSafe’;
• how to protect your customers from trauma, distress and possible death;
• how to protect your business from financial loss, fines and closure; and
• the potential risk, in extreme cases, of you going to prison and being banned from handling food for life!

The next available training days are 16 or 17 November 2009. It is full day course and whilst there are no particular entry requirements other than being involved in a food environment; a Level 2 in Food Safety would be recommended.
