Law At Work has found that many of the businesses we work with see great value in taking out Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) to protect against legal defense costs and compensation awards in the event that an employment related claim (including any court or tribunal action) is pursued against your Company.
Accordingly, we have an arrangement under which Law At Work clients can take our EPLI at preferential rates, based on their Law At Work client status. The substantial discounts on the normal costs of EPLI reflect the underwriters’ confidence that the claims records of Law At Work clients will be much better than those of companies without the benefit of our Advisory Service.
This EPLI is arranged by an independent local intermediary, Vantage Ltd, who will provide all advice and insurance related activities directly to you. Please be aware that Law At Work does not provide any insurance advice or arrangements. The EPLI is provided subject to the terms of the insurance policy and any decision as to whether the insurance is available, the terms on which any insurance may be available and any payments made under any policy is entirely that of the insurer and not Law At Work.
In both Islands the tribunal has the jurisdiction to award up to 26 weeks or six months’ salary as compensation. In addition, employees could claim up to £10,000 for all other contractual employment claims (although the insurance does not cover contractual claims).
This insurance is only available if you decide to take the Advisory Service, as clients must adhere to the Law At Work advice to qualify for the insurance cover. The monthly figure for the EPLI is, therefore, extremely cost effective when considered against the financial penalties that the Employment Tribunal may award.
